Positive Approaches to THriving through
Occupational Mobility (PATH) Study

About

The purpose of the PATH Study to explore the lived experiences of African American/Black women nurse leaders aged 50 and older who began their careers in low-wage direct care positions and have successfully navigated significant career transitions.

By examining these leaders' unique experiences and strategies, we aim to uncover valuable insights into how they have managed stress, coped with prejudice and discrimination, and maintained work-life balance throughout their careers. This research seeks to understand adaptive strategies and personal and organizational resources that contributed to professional advancement in the face of systemic barriers and associated stressors.

The long term goals of this study are to illuminate pathways for upward mobility and provide actionable insights from nurse leaders from underrepresented backgrounds.

Funding

This study is funded by the Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research (NIA).
